Plugins in Use @ Moondance : All-in-One SEO Pack
Posted by Michelle Petit-Sumrall as Blogging, Plugins, Wordpress
It’s plugins time once again! This time, we’ll talk about getting your site found on the major search engines.
If you’ve been following along so far you should have developed a pretty decent set of blogging skills. Moreover, by now I bet you’ve got a few articles published, because blogging is an addiction: once you start, it’s hard to resist. But who’s reading your innermost thoughts, your most important opinion, your treatise on life? How will they ever find your insightful insights? The secret lies in great content, word of mouth (or rather, word of web, which we discussed a bit in the post on the “Add-to-Any“plugin), and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
The “All-In-One SEO Pack” plugin makes it pretty easy.

Tech News: Verizon Wireless Hub
Posted by Michelle Petit-Sumrall as Technology

Verizon Wireless's home phone, the 'Hub'. Image Copyright 2009 Verizon Wireless. All Rights Reserved.
The absolute hottest thing I’ve seen in a long time (and I realize I’m late to report it, not being the “Tech Expo” type), something that anyone can understand, has just hit the shelves.
I also think it’s the coolest thing since the Wii.
It’s called “the Hub” (or, more specifically, the “Verizon Wireless Hub“), and although I don’t expect it to show up in every household any time soon, if ever (at $199 with a $50.00 mail-in rebate, it’s not easy for most to purchase), I do expect it to inspire other wireless (and maybe even broadband and satellite companies) to follow suit at some point in the near future.

BREAKING NEWS: New Wordpress 2.7
Posted by Michelle Petit-Sumrall as Blogging, Computing, Wordpress
Sometimes, it’s a good thing being a bit of a geek.
As I’ve said over and over again, I have a personal blog, in addition to this one. That blog serves as a vehicle for personal expression, while also being a testbed for Wordpress as a blog tool. Thanks to “The Brown Study” I have been able to test the new release of Wordpress, ver 2.7, and lemme tell ya, I’m impressed. It actually makes a lot of the backend plugins I had originally installed here obsolete.

New Theme: Zinmag Redux
Posted by Michelle Petit-Sumrall as Miscellaneous
So, just installed this GORGEOUS theme on the main Moondance Blog, and I’ve been trying to play around with it. At the time I began this post, the tabber div wasn’t working, nor was the glide function working. As I was writing, I would think of something else to try, in order to fix my problems, so I would stop writing the post, go try it, and report back here. This is the unexpected account of that journey. For the record, I was completely NOT involved in developing Zinmag; I just happen to have enough experience testing things to have done this and know how to test for troublesome code.
Also, I can’t sleep.
Anyway, on with it!

Bypassing the Corporate Voice Systems
Posted by Michelle Petit-Sumrall as Miscellaneous
As our world has become more fast-paced and performance driven, many innovations have left us breathless with their size and scope. A few, however, simply leave us angry. Personalized customer service seems to be on the outs, which is useful sometimes (when you’re in a hurry, for instance), but it seems to me when you’re calling a company about a problem, things have actually gotten more difficult. There are more hurdles to hop.
Fortunately, other people than myself also find those voice systems annoying and have compiled a list of “backdoors” that (in theory) will help you get to a real human being in less time.
Here’s to progress.
