Plugins in Use @ Moondance: Wordpress Stats

Posted by Michelle Petit-Sumrall as Blogging, Plugins, Wordpress

Continuing on with my series on the plugins available for your Moondance-hosted blog, this time we tackle “WordPress Stats”, a tool designed to show you the basics of how many people are visiting your blog and other such cool and useful things.

Stats is actually a .com add-on, and, just like the Akismet plugin, requires you to have a Wordpress.com account (free for the taking!) so that you can get an API key.

Once you have a key, simply go to the “My Profile” link on .com and find the key right at the top of the Profile page. Come back to your Moondance blog’s dashboard, go to the “Blog Stats” page and paste your key within the space provided. Simple! Now you will have graphs showing the number of your site visitors, which pages are most visited, and what keywords were used to reach your blog, among other cool things. This should give you an idea of whether or not you’re getting people to actually read your blog, maybe even how they are coming to visit it.

You may have noticed I’m using the stats of my personal blog: at the moment, my graph for this blog is dead flat! I need to drive more traffic to this site. There are several solutions available to help me do that. One is to post on other blogs, and the easiest to find are typically linked right to all the plugins you install. If you have trouble using a plugin or widget, go to the creator’s page and post a comment. When you do that, make sure to fill in the “website” form with your blog’s URL. Sooner or later, someone will click, if only because they are curious. With luck (and good content), your visitor will subscribe to your blog, and/or share your link.

Other methods are made easier through the use of.. you guessed it! ! On this site, I’ve installed “All-in-One SEO Pack” and “Google XML Sitemaps”. We’ll discuss those at a later time…

Happy !
