It’s plugins time once again!  This time, we’ll talk about getting your site found on the major search engines.

If you’ve been following along so far you should have developed a pretty decent set of blogging skills.  Moreover, by now I bet you’ve got a few articles published, because blogging is an addiction: once you start, it’s hard to resist. But who’s reading your innermost thoughts, your most important opinion, your treatise on life? How will they ever find your insightful insights? The secret lies in great content, word of mouth (or rather, word of web, which we discussed a bit in the post on the “Add-to-Any“plugin), and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

The “All-In-One SEO Pack” plugin makes it pretty easy.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.ⁱ

All-in-One SEO Pack is a plugin designed to help your site show up higher in search results, by implementing “Meta” keywords, descriptions, titles, and everything else that helps a site be found in a search engine search. If you’ve ever designed a website before, you’ll already be aware of these terms and how they can be instrumental in increasing web visibility.

Right out of the box, it should already help increase your blog’s visibility. However, you can (and should) add things like “Home title”, “Home Keywords”, and “Home Description” to use the words that you want people to search for your blog on.

Once you’ve installed the plugin, go to its options page (you’ll find it under “Settings”) to configure it. As your blog evolves, you might find yourself wanting to tweak them. Don’t be shy, and don’t forget to use it! It’s a really powerful tool, and simple to use: it’s practically plug-and-play.
